ABOUT
The Concordia Safe Rides Pilot Program is an initiative designed to ensure that current Concordia students have access to a safe and affordable ride during the academic year, especially when the MATBUS is not in operating hours. The Concordia Safe Rides Pilot Program offers a $4 discount on rides under the following restrictions:
-
Thursday—Saturday
-
9:30pm—4:00am
-
In Fargo—Moorhead
-
Limited to 2 Rides per Month
If the ride that a student wants to take meets the above restrictions and is a member of the Concordia College SGA Uber business profile (details below) they will automatically receive the discount.
HOW TO ACCESS THE DISCOUNT
Students will be sent a survey through a Cobweb, asking students to complete the survey if they are interested in joining the Safe Rides program (This will be sent each semester). This information will be sent to Uber. Then, students will receive an email from Uber to join the Concordia College SGA Uber business profile. Please follow the instructions with that link to complete the sign up. After you have registered with the Concordia College SGA business profile, whenever you are taking an Uber that meets the restrictions above, you will automatically be asked if you would like to take advantage of the discount.

If you did not receive the email to join our Uber business profile, but want to access the discount code, please email sga@cord.edu.

*Students should create an Uber account before attempting to join the Concordia College SGA Uber business profile. However, the account does not need to be created with the Concordia email.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why should SGA fund a Safe Rides program?
The Safe Rides program stems from multiple different areas:
-
The Spring 2019 Behavioral Health Survey found that 13.5% of Concordia College students admitted to drinking and driving within the past 30 days of the survey! While at surface level, this may seem like a small percentage, there should be zero people who make the decision to drive under the influence. Moreover, this statistic is likely very conservative, as this is the number of students who admit to driving under the influence. By providing a cost-effective ride, we are anticipating the ability to reduce this statistic.
-
Even when students are not driving, there are safety concerns when students have no choice but to walk home, especially alone, at late hours of the night. Again, by providing a cost-effective ride option, we hope to promote the safety of students.
-
This program will financially help students that do not have access to a vehicle on campus but need to go somewhere during the late hours of the night.

Why Uber?
Uber offers businesses and organizations, like SGA, the ability to ensure that their constituents, the student body, can access discounts.

Does Uber honor my privacy?
Yes. Uber drivers are not notified of your age, any personal information, or that you are affiliated with Concordia College. However, students do need to follow Uber's Community Guidelines, which asks everyone to treat each other, and the driver, with respect. Please find Uber's Community Guidelines here.

If this is just a pilot program, what happens next year?
Frankly, it completely depends on your reactions to the Concordia Safe Ride Pilot Program! If students find that this discount code is beneficial, we will look into ways in which we can ensure the longevity of the initiative. However, if the discount is not widely utilized, SGA will reevaluate the program and see if it is worth pursuing in the upcoming years.
